A Bit of History

Since 1856 a Methodist congregation has worshipped God in a church at the top of the hill on Main Street in Shreve and reached out to the Shreve community and surrounding area, the nation and the world.

In 1905, the third and present church was built. In 1956, an education wing was added with an upper floor added to it in 1962. In 2003, the current sanctuary and fellowship hall became a reality when it was added to the 1905 building. A family activity center, completed in 2011, is used by the church family and community.

Who We Are

Making disciples by sharing the Word of Jesus and reaching out in His love continues to be the main focus and mission of this congregation.

At Shreve United Methodist Church we are committed to living lives devoted to Christ and to continually grow more like him. Our services and programs are based on Biblical teachings and we rely on the Bible to guide us through our lives.

“The United Methodist Church believes God’s love for the world is an active and engaged love, a love seeking justice and liberty. We cannot just be observers. So we care enough about people’s lives to risk interpreting God’s love, to take a stand, to call each of us into a response, no matter how controversial or complex. The church helps us think and act out a faith perspective, not just responding to all the other ‘mind-makers-up’ that exist in our society.”
